Advancing with Vigor to Embark on a New Journey

(Abridged)

Dear Faculty, Students, Alumni, and Friends,

As the new year dawns and a fresh chapter begins, we, on behalf of Shanghai Jian Qiao University(SJQU), extend our sincerest holiday greetings and best wishes for the New Year to all faculty members, students, staff, retired colleagues, alumni, as well as leaders at all levels and friends from all sectors of society who have long cared for and supported the development of our university.

Time passes swiftly, and the year has borne abundant fruits. Looking back on 2025, the university remained steadfastly committed to the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education and shouldering the responsibility of cultivating talent for the nation. We comprehensively deepened comprehensive reforms and promoted high-quality, connotation-driven development, steadily advancing on the path to becoming “a distinctive, application-oriented first-class private university.”

In the endeavors of 2025, we remained true to our original aspirations and nurtured the fragrant fruits of fostering virtue through education. We advanced comprehensive reforms in the mechanism for fostering virtue, with the Business School being selected as a pilot school for such reforms by the Ministry of Education. We deepened the educational practice of the Lei Feng Spirit, launching the “Alumni Lei Feng Gold Award Visiting Plan,” promoting the comprehensive renovation and upgrading of the Lei Feng Memorial Hall, and establishing Shanghai’s first university-level Lei Feng-themed cultural square. Guided by Party building, we constructed a new educational ecosystem in student communities, with the “one-stop” student community initiative receiving a Grade A recognition in the national comprehensive management model for such communities. We steadily advanced the integration of the five domains of education, and our labor education case was selected as a model case for educational modernization in the Yangtze River Delta region by the Ministry of Education. Efforts to promote cultural and ethical advancement progressed steadily, with the university successfully passing the re-evaluation as a National Civilized Unit

and earning, for the tenth consecutive time over twenty years, the title of Shanghai Civilized Unit (Campus). The university ranked third in the 2025 Alumni Association China Private University Rankings by Cuaa.net. Our students achieved remarkable success in various high-level scientific innovation and academic competitions, including winning the International Gold Award in the Global Brand Planning Competition, the Municipal Gold Award in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, and the Special Award in the inaugural Jianqiao “Dishui Lake Cup” AI Future · National Private University English Speech Contest. Employment quality continued to improve, with nearly 500 students advancing to further studies at higher education institutions both domestically and internationally, setting a historical record for postgraduate admission rates. The “Talent Launch Program” yielded outstanding outcomes, with over 30 students receiving offers from world-renowned universities.

In the pursuit of excellence in 2025, we embraced innovation and wrote a new chapter in connotation-driven development. We continued to deepen reforms in education and teaching, fully advancing the implementation of the “14th Five-Year Plan” tasks, and strode forward resolutely on the journey toward excellence. We advanced the preparation of the “15th Five-Year Plan” with high quality, outlining a grand blueprint for the university’s development. We successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Education and Teaching Audit and Evaluation, elevating the quality of undergraduate education and the overall standard of the university to new heights. Guided by the “one university, one policy” reform, we promoted comprehensive reforms in school governance, fully stimulating institutional vitality. Integration of industry and education achieved strategic leaps, with the construction of industrial colleges steadily advancing. The Lingang Jewelry Art Center was completed and put into operation, and the national-level platform “Integrated Circuit Packaging and Testing Industry-Talent Collaborative Innovation Center” was successfully established, accelerating the construction of an industry-education integrated university into a “fast track” of high-quality development. The university’s social influence and regional contributions in serving local development continued to grow. Adhering to the principle of strengthening teachers to revitalize education, we intensified efforts in talent recruitment and development, continuously optimized the faculty structure, and saw multiple teachers achieving honors in various teaching skill competitions. We launched the pilot construction of the Ministry of Education’s “Leading Navigator Workstation” for university teachers, creating a new platform for cultivating high-quality educators. Scientific research and innovation achieved a historic “double breakthrough,” securing three projects from both the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund simultaneously for the first time, while the number of high-level published papers reached a new record. Discipline and program construction improved in quality and efficiency, with Gem Geology Fundamentals and Crystallography & Mineralogy being approved as a National First-Class Undergraduate Course, marking a breakthrough. Twelve courses were selected as Shanghai First-Class Undergraduate Courses, and 26 courses were designated as Shanghai Key Courses. The internationalization strategy deepened, with the quality and quantity of cooperative exchange institutions continuously improving, the number of students participating in overseas exchanges reaching a new high, and the open education landscape expanding further. We held a series of events to celebrate the university’s 25th anniversary, uniting the entire university community in a shared endeavor and fostering a deep sense of pride and belonging.

As we set out on a new journey with determination and seize opportunities to forge a new landscape, 2026 marks the beginning of the “15th Five-Year Plan.” This is another milestone in the university’s journey of building on past achievements and paving the way for the future, as well as a new starting point for continued efforts and renewed glory in this new historical period. Let us firmly anchor ourselves to the blueprint of the “15th Five-Year Plan,” guided by high-quality Party building, and integrate the advancement of educational development, scientific and technological innovation, and talent cultivation. With unity of purpose and steadfast action, let us continuously create a new landscape of high-quality, connotation-driven development for the university, striving to write a new chapter in building a distinctive, application-oriented first-class private university on this new journey in the new era, and contribute Jianqiao’s strength to advancing the great cause of building a strong nation and rejuvenating the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization.

As the bell of 2026 is about to ring, let us greet the first brilliant rays of the New Year’s sun hand in hand, advancing with the vigor of a galloping steed and moving forward courageously in pursuing new dreams! May our great motherland thrive in prosperity and its people enjoy peace and happiness! May SJQU continue its legacy and flourish with each passing day! Wishing all members of the Jianqiao community a joyful, happy, and healthy New Year!
