A Brief Introduction of SJQU

Shanghai Jian Qiao University (SJQU), established in 2000, is a full-time private university focusing on undergraduate education and cultivates high-quality application-oriented professionals in the front line of production, construction, management, and service areas.

SJQU is indeed a modern garden-like university. Located in the Lin-gang Special Area of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone with great traffic convenience, the new campus covers 532,500 square meters with a beautiful natural environment, advanced facilities, and more than 1.74 million paper books. SJQU now has 14 schools and colleges. SJQU has 40 four-year undergraduate programs with bachelor's degrees and 10 three-year junior college programs with diplomas covering economics, management, liberal arts, engineering, science, fine arts, and education.

As of September 2024, SJQU has enrolled more than 24,000 full-time students, 21,000 of whom are undergraduates. Since its establishment, SJQU has cultivated nearly 74,000 qualified graduates who are warmly welcomed by employers.

To cultivate our students with a global vision and capacity for cross-cultural communication, SJQU has established cooperation with more than 100 companies. SJQU also has signed MOUs with foreign universities from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Denmark, Australia, South Korea, and Japan, etc., to enhance its international education in curriculum docking, resource sharing, mutual recognition of credits, and student exchange. SJQU is the first private university in Shanghai to enroll international students and annually enrolls more than 100 long-term and short-term international students.

SJQU is granted as National Model Unit, National Mass Sports Advanced Unit, Shanghai Model Unit, Shanghai Security Model Unit, Shanghai Garden Unit, and National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Model Unit (Private colleges and Universities) and has passed ISO9001 certification. SJQU is the first pilot unit of Shanghai Independent Enrollment Reforms, the first pilot unit of University and Enterprises Cooperation for Hi-tech Talents, Shanghai Private Higher Education Students Counselor Base, and Pudong Hi-tech Talents Training Base.

SJQU has been approved for 2 Innovation Bases for Production and Education Integration and 18 Cooperative Projects for Industry-University Cooperation by the MOE. SJQU has 1 national-level pilot major of Comprehensive Reform of Undergraduate Specialties by the MOE. SJQU has 15 first-class undergraduate majors, 1 first-class undergraduate cultivation project, 5 pilot majors, and 3 featured majors in Shanghai. It also has 1 National-level Fine Course,12 fine courses, 3 high-quality online courses, 3 model all-English courses, 19 first-class undergraduate courses and 103 key courses, and 16 Key Teaching Reform Projects at the Shanghai municipal level. In recent years, SJQU has won 8 Shanghai Teaching Achievement Awards.

SJQU joined the South-West University Joint Teaching Program with the participation of 20 universities, such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, and so on, which enables SJQU students to enjoy and share the resources of high-quality collegiate education.
