Recently, the 2026 Alumni Association China University Rankings were officially released by Cuaa.net, a leading third-party university evaluation organization in China. According to the ranking results, Shanghai Jian Qiao University(SJQU) has secured the third position in the 2026 China Private University Rankings (Category I), sharing this standing with Qilu Institute of Technology. This achievement underscores the university’s robust overall strength and leading status among application-oriented institutions, particularly those distinguished by their engineering-focused academic programs.
Launched in 2003, the Alumni Association China University Rankings employ an evaluation system encompassing 12 primary indicators, including institutional level, ideological and political education, teaching quality, academic disciplines, research output, and social contributions. With over 900 specific assessment criteria, the ranking has established itself as a widely recognized and credible benchmark in higher education evaluation. For the first time in 2026, private universities were classified into “research-oriented” and “application-oriented” categories, with the latter further divided into Type I (predominantly engineering), Type II, and Type III. This refined classification aims to encourage universities to develop their distinctive strengths and pursue specialized growth. In the competitive Type I category, Wuchang Shouyi University ranked first, followed by Wenhua University in second place, while SJQU held a solid third position, reflecting its consistent and well-established performance.
In recent years, SJQU has steadfastly implemented national educational policies, remained committed to the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, and maintained a clear focus on its identity as an applied technology institution. By closely aligning with the socio-economic development needs of Shanghai and the broader Yangtze River Delta region—particularly through its strategic presence in the Lingang New Area—the university has actively promoted the integrated development of industry, education, and urban development. With engineering as its distinctive feature and a commitment to multidisciplinary coordination, the university has continuously advanced teaching and learning reforms while deepening industry-education collaboration and university-enterprise partnerships.
Its top-three placement in this authoritative ranking is a testament to the university’s long-term dedication to substantive development and its emphasis on cultivating application-oriented talent. This recognition also highlights the broad acknowledgment of the university’s progress in discipline development, teaching quality, social engagement, and institutional reputation—further consolidating its prominent position within China’s private higher education sector, especially among applied engineering institutions.
Looking forward, the university will continue to adhere to its applied technology orientation, prioritize discipline development as a key driver, and remain focused on preparing high-quality, application-oriented professionals. Through ongoing enhancement of educational quality and substantive institutional growth, SJQU aims to contribute even more significantly to the high-quality economic and social advancement of the region.
